A bit about us…

Our Story

The Children’s Place Speech & Language Therapy Ltd. is a clinic where therapists have a limited number of children in their caseload, so they have time to build meaningful relationships with the families, teachers, and other professionals working with the little ones. This allows the therapists to spend more time tailoring therapy to individual children’s needs, creating materials, and planning fun-filled, learning-enriched sessions.

We foster a fun, exciting, and supportive environment where your child is excited to attend. Our approach enables us to help your little one develop in the crucial developmental years of their life. All children are unique, and we believe that all therapy should be unique as well. We provide tailored therapy to best suit your little one in order to excel and develop in their communication journey.

We pride ourselves on the absolute best therapy and service. The Children’s Place brings a unique outlook and perspective to the way your child will receive, learn, and reach their goals in therapy through evidence-based strategies.

The philosophy and business practice of The Children’s Place allows us to provide high-quality speech and language therapy to little ones. It allows us to provide more personalised exclusive therapy, which in return allows for faster gains and greater family involvement.

At The Children’s Place, we have a passion for working with little ones and love watching children’s faces brighten as they bloom in their ability to communicate more effectively. We look forward to starting a chapter of The Children’s Place with your child and family!

Our Training

We have training in the following courses from the originally accredited bodies.

Applied Behaviour Analysis

Behavior analysis focuses on the principles that explain how learning takes place. Positive reinforcement is one such principle. When a behaviour is followed by some sort of reward, the behavior is more likely to be repeated. Through decades of research, the field of behavior analysis has developed many techniques for increasing useful behaviors and reducing those that may cause harm or interfere with learning.

Colourful Semantics

This is a therapy technique, which uses colour coded cards with pictures to help children to learn the important elements of a sentence, and how to join them together in the correct order. The basic idea of Colourful Semantics is to assign a colour to a particular part of a sentence. Children can therefore be taught what a grammatically correct sentence sounds like using the added visual support.

Derbyshire Language Scheme

The Derbyshire Language Scheme is a system of language intervention intended for children who have difficulties in developing language skills. The system focuses on key words in a phrase to facilitate the development of understanding and spoken language.

Early Start Denver Model

The Early Start Denver Model (ESDM) is a comprehensive behavioural early intervention approach for children with autism, ages 12 to 48 months. The program encompasses a developmental curriculum that defines the skills to be taught at any given time and a set of teaching procedures used to deliver this content.

Lidcombe

The Lidcombe Program is a behavioural treatment specifically for stuttering in children younger than six years. The treatment is administered by a parent or carer in the child’s everyday environment, who is guided and taught by a speech & language therapist.

Makaton

Makaton is a language programme using signs and symbols to help people to communicate. It is designed to support spoken language and the signs and symbols are used with speech, in spoken word order. Using signs can help people who have no speech or whose speech is unclear.

More Than Words

A program from The Hanen Centre, More Than Words is designed specifically for parents of children ages 5 years and under, on the autism spectrum. Addressing the unique needs of these children, the program provides parents with the tools, strategies and support they need to help their children reach their full communication potential.

Nuffield Dyspraxia Programme

An assessment and therapy approach to meet the needs of children with severe speech disorders, and specifically those with significant difficulty with motor planning stages of the speech-processing model. The therapy aims to develop early consonant and vowel sounds to produce syllables and then longer patterns of sounds and words and onto sentences.

Palin Parent Child Interaction Therapy (PCI)

Palin PCI is a therapy approach that has been developed at the Michael Palin Centre in the UK. The components of the programme vary for individual families, based on the child’s need. Generally, the approach begins with indirect strategies so that the parents’ may further support the child’s fluency development, with more direct speech strategies introduced later, for those children who still need them.

Picture Exchange Communication System (PECS)

PECS is a form of alternative and augmentative communication in which a child is taught to communicate with an adult by utilizing cards with pictures demonstrating demands and needs.
