Aimee Nelson
ABA Tutor
I was born in London but moved to live in Hong Kong when I was two years old. We lived there for three years, and I enjoyed going to the beaches, making friends and starting school. My sister was born there, and we then moved back to London when she was three years old and I was seven years old.
I have always been a creative person, and I love to design and make things. I went on to study Graphic Design at university, which I really enjoyed. However, after finishing my degree, I went to help and work at a nursery school while looking for jobs. That’s when I realised that working with children is actually my passion!
I love helping children learn and can still use my creative skills to make activities and find alternative ways to make learning fun. I went on to gain a NVQ Level 3 in Early Years Care and Education and then a diploma in Montessori pedagogy, giving me the skills to observe children and the way they learn. I have worked in early years for over 18 years, supporting little ones with all abilities and stages of development. This is where I first came across ABA and saw firsthand how much it can help children and their families. I worked alongside ABA tutors and BCBAs with children at the nursery and wanted to carry on working in this specialised role.
I joined The Children’s Place and love working with other professionals who all want the best for each child that comes through the doors. My home now is in Clapham South, where I live with my daughter, a cat and two chinchillas. Did you know that Chinchillas have 60-100 hairs growing out of one follicle and are the softest animals in the world?
I love to travel and experience new places, but I also love what the countryside has to offer and enjoy going camping… if it is warm enough! One day I would love to upgrade my tent to a camper van and have always wanted to drive across Route 66!
