Kayla Aschermayr
Master Puzzler (Previously Ambassador of First Impressions)
Hi there! My childhood was spent on a tranquil island in the Puget Sound playing outside with my brothers and cousins among Silkie bantam chickens, Muscovy ducks, Australian shepherd dogs and a wide variety of fruit trees. The figs and mulberries were my favourites! Though we spent more time inside as the years went by, I am deeply grateful to have grown up in the stunning Pacific Northwest surrounded by flora, fauna and family.
Through volunteering at local community events and babysitting for families nearby, I discovered a passion for working with children and watching the wonder in their faces as they grow and learn. I moved to the city to pursue higher education and become a primary school teacher to foster a love of learning in young minds and prepare children to thrive inside and outside the classroom.
After graduating from Seattle Pacific University with a Bachelor of Arts and residency teacher certification from the State of Washington, I decided to move to Switzerland to work as an au pair and travel to Europe before starting my career. Sometime between school runs and lakeside walks with a view of the Alps, I met my future husband and we were married in a baroque mountain church in Austria a year later.
We moved to the bustling city of London soon after, and I worked as a teacher and pre-school room leader at a private nursery before starting my adventure at The Children’s Place. As the Ambassador of First Impressions, I was able to continue working with little ones and while engaging my interests in administration and customer service. My husband and I temporarily moved back to Austria after I spent almost two-and-a-half years welcoming little ones to our Marylebone centre, and I am very grateful for the opportunity to remain a part of the TCP team by supporting families and therapists online.
Outside of work, I enjoy reading novels, walking down tree-lined avenues and making the most of our Netflix and Deliveroo Plus subscriptions. My food obsession has lead me to many restaurants and markets around the world, though chicken wings and cake remain staples of my diet. I love exploring new places and stumbling upon unexpected, unforgettable experiences, such as cave jumping with my family in the Philippines and sledding under a full moon in a car-free village in Switzerland.
I am excited to virtually meet you and be a small part of your little one’s learning journey!
