Wait… What are ABA Therapy and early Intensive Behavioural Therapy (EIBT)
Applied Behavioral Analysis (ABA) is a therapy approach based on the science of learning and behaviour. It applies scientific, empirically-supported principles of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) (e.g. establishing motivation and reinforcement such as social praise) to everyday situations to support the development of new skills (e.g. communication, play, eating), increasing the use of current skills the little one has, supporting social interactions, and supporting little ones to be able to access their learning through different environments independently.Â
How are ABA Therapy and EIBT applied at TCP?
Tailored one-to-one early intensive behavioural intervention support focuses on the specific needs of your little one. Your little one will be sure to receive support that is unique to their individual needs. We strive to provide therapy that aligns with the values of your little one and your family. Key areas of focus during our therapy support can include, but are not limited to:
- Communication skillsÂ
- Social skillsÂ
- Independent living skills (e.g. feeding, toileting)
- Academic skillsÂ
- Behaviour management for those more difficult situationsÂ

What you can expect
Say Hello With An Initial Phone Consultation
An initial phone consultation is an opportunity for you to discuss your concerns regarding your little one’s development. There is no pressure to come in and see us, so always feel free to call to say hello, ask questions and find out more about our services!
If The Children’s Place and you both agree this is the right place for you, an email with a welcome package will be sent to you. This is a chance for you to read more about The Children’s Place and fill out forms to help us learn more about your child. If requested, we will also set up a phone call to answer any of your questions after you read through the welcome package and set up an appointment for the initial assessment.
Initial Assessment
The assessment will consist of a parent interview and review of case history form, informal and formal assessment activities, determination and review of assessment conclusions and discussion of therapy recommendations. After the assessment, the therapist will develop a written report if requested and establish long and short-term strategic goals for your child to be reviewed with you.
Therapy
The length and amount of the weekly therapy sessions will be agreed upon. A mutually agreeable time will be established weekly for your children’s therapy session. A treatment plan with goals will be established, and as goals are mastered, new ones will be developed.
Activities and resources will be made available to families to carry over skills for practice. Goals are continually assessed informally and are re-evaluated every six months. Additional evaluations will be conducted as necessary to determine formal progress.
We provide therapy in our centres, in schools, nurseries or daycares, and clients’ homes. At times, it is difficult for clients to travel to the clinic, and when possible, we are willing to try our best to accommodate home visits.
